Following the exhibitions in Taiwan and Shanghai, the last stop of the Berlin Design Selection Tour is going to be DeTour Hong Kong, that had initially opened its doors to public in 2004. It will take place from November 29th to December 8th in Central Oasis. For ten days, the main event will be accompanied by nearly a hundred of alliance and satellite exhibitions across the Hong Kong island, providing extensive presense and engaging the public in celebrating creativity.
The 2013 edition of DeTour will present original, bold and stimulating ideas by local and international designers. The event is organized by Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design, the Hong Kong Design Centre and PolyU Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation.
The collective representation of Berlin‘s design companies will provide the Asian tour exhibitions with a variety of design products that are supposed to inspire the Asian design market. Whether clean minimalism, sustainability concepts or simple elegance – the pieces selected by a jury bear the potential to establish Berlin‘s design as a distinct category and to expand its presence in the Asian area.
Among others, the following products will be shown within the scope of DeTour Hong Kong:
bel+bo alias Jeannine van Erk is going to present cocon malade & boule malade, a series of hand-made unique lamps that are characterized by a warm, atmospheric light. The production of these lamps is one of the fascinating factors: Pigment-coated gauze bandages are wrapped around balloons by hand, and then get treated with a special hardening substance.
Cognosco is showing Trivets, a selection of UV-printed ceramic tiles, that can be used as coasters or wall tiles. The architect/photographer Amelie von Oppen designed over 500 motives that show famous landmarks of Berlin and other German cities as well as a selection of still life photographs and other design lines created by the graphic designer Christina Peil.
Gretchen presents the Tango series of leather ware and accessories, among which is the Tango Pouch, that has been awarded with the Red Dot Award. Avant-garde shapes and dedication to detail make up the driving force behind the Tango series.
Harris / Kohl show their spice mill M2. Its heart consists of two ceramic grinding discs; the mechanism is made of stainless steel. Thanks to the patented construction, M2 is ideal for grinding salt, pepper and spices of all kinds. Unlike conventional mills, it translates the movement of “crushing between hands”. The shape supports this motion and makes the handling easier.
llot llov exhibit AMF, Matt and TEA. AMF alias Assah, Mata and Fide are three vases, which resemble oversized chess figures. They are produced by the traditional process of metal spinning. The trio is inspired by the 100-yearold collection of templates found on the shelves of a metal spinning factory. Matt is a lighting element with the ability to dynamically adapt itself according to the individual needs of its user, changing its appearance with the place of installation. TEA consists of three sculptures: Thomas, Edison and Alva offer an arty option to decorate a wall. Their eccentric shapes have been adapted from high voltage insulators.
With No Cardboard, Philipp Käfer is showing a furniture piece made of aluminium, but resembling corrugated cardboard. Despite of its light weight, No Cardboard‘s characterizing feature is a special stability that enables the object to sustain a weight of up to 400 kilograms.
Pokket GmbH shows Pokket Mixer, a mobile music DJ-mixing device. The gadget needs two music players, for example an mp3 player and a mobile phone. An electrical connection or batteries are not necessary.
Walachei, founded by Erik van Buuren, is represented by the organic shower gels RS 100 and EB 200. They scent of tangerine, lavender and honey (RS 100), respectively rose geranium and vanilla (EB 200). After a long day or an exiting night out, the natural fragrance of RS 100 invites you to relax, while EB 200 stimulates your senses for a perfect start into the day. The creamy gel transforms into fine pored foam, which does not dehydrate but optimally nurtures the skin. RS 100 and EB 200 contain Berlin-grown honey and are biodegradable organic cosmetics on vegetable ba
