Sao Paulo Design Weekend starting today!

First station of the Berlin Design Selection tour is going to be the Design Weekend that will take place in Sao Paulo on August 15th to 18th. With its numerous exhibitors and a big variety of events, the festival is considered the biggest of its kind in Latin America. Strategic placement of public and private Design Weekend events in museums, galeries, studios and parks provides for a comprehensive presense in the megacity Sao Paulo.

Sao Paulo Design House ((c) Design House)

For Berlin presentation, Design House was acquired as a local partner. The exhibition is going to be at a historic building in a design affine central area of the city and thus in the heart of the Design Weekend.

Because of the archaic setting, the event will be more than an exhibition. It’s going to be a design experience, in conceptual, functional and aesthetic aspects. A city like Sao Paulo, in which past and present come together in such an intense way, sets an exciting stage for Berlin’s designers’ versatile ideas. The parallel to Berlin is unmistakable, since it is also a history-charged and at the same time modern city.
The spectrum of Berlin’s companies’ common presentation is stretching from surface structures for 3D-printed objects to elaborate luminaires and ecologically produced furniture.

Among others, the following products will be shown at the Sao Paulo Design Weekend:

45 kilo, founded in 2007, presents Ray Glasses, crystal handmade glasses break the sunlight in a spectrum of fine lines. White Table, made by 45 kilo as well, is the most simple and functional table you can imagine.

With Reverse Decay, the designer Birgit Severin is showing a surface structure for 3D-printed objects, that consist of two overlying geometrical layers. One of them is only slightly attached to the other and separates from it through interaction. Over time, one layer pattern is transforming into the other. For Ashes, Severin is also using 3D technology.

Alice von Stockhausen shows Light Drop Vaiations, which are interchangeable lamp parts that can be assembled to satisfy individual needs.

Lasso by dookke:design is a three-dimensional luminaire. A complex web of mini-sculptures constitutes its basic geometry. Each minisculpture is made of high-class acryl glass. The interlocking of these elements makes up its spatial volume.

hettler:tüllmann put sustainability on their agenda. The collective is showing Recycled Leather Chair & Cork Tables, furniture made of compostable or recycled materials.

With isla, nest, phases and toro, Joa Herrenknecht presents different objects, among which is a carpet made of handwoven wool, as well as modular flower pots for flowers and climbing plants.
